A
non-governmental organization (NGO) is a private organization that works to alleviate suffering, advance underprivileged causes, protect the environment, provide basic social services, or promote community development. An NGO is defined as a private group that is non-profit and unrestricted by the government.
An NGO's main goal is to serve as a bridge between the government and the public, to assist the public by meeting their needs in accordance with project objectives, and to contribute to the overall growth of society (human development and social progress indices, both). In the last several decades, NGOs have emerged as a powerful new force, creating and implementing participatory, and their legitimacy is dependent on how effectively they perform this function.
